One of my favorite parts to every wedding reception is the anniversary dance. Not the cheesy part where the DJ makes the first announcement that “all couples married less than 2 hours can leave the dance floor.” I’m talking about the part where everyone has cleared the dance floor and only one couple remains. The song fades out. And there stands a couple gently swaying back and forth. They aren’t aware the music has stopped yet. So there they stand her head gently resting on his shoulder and his weathered hand gently holding hers. They’re thinking back on the 50 + years of marriage. The hard times. The good times. The times when they wanted to give up, but never did. That’s the moment I love.
After the dance the couple usually gives some sort of advice to the newlyweds…Well. We haven’t been married 50 years, or even 5. But we can offer this one piece of advice. Never stop dating each other. Make the time each week to connect and continue pursuing the others heart. We do this now. And we’ll do it until we’re the last couple on the dance floor one day.
And because every post is better with a photo…here’s one of our engagement photos from almost 4 years ago.
